About Vanberg & DeWulf Upon returning from a three-year stint in Belgium, we founded Vanberg & DeWulf Importing. Since 1982, the specialty beers of Belgium and the North of France have been our passion. This region is the richest repository of gastronomic beers in the world.
For over a millennium, talented,
idiosyncratic brewers have been brewing a staggering range of beers. We
are proud to be the first importers to specialize in Belgian beers. All come, as always, from independent, family-run
breweries committed to traditional methods of production.
When we began this company our aim
was to help preserve historic styles. Since World War II there has been
massive consolidation in the Belgian beer market. By the 70’s, many of
the most interesting small breweries were on a tenuous footing. Had they
been swallowed up or shuttered, rare styles might well have disappeared
from the world of beer forever. By gathering together the best examples
we could find of artisanal ales, and introducing them here, we hoped to
make the breweries stronger at home, and esteemed in the States.
It is gratifying that Belgian beers
have really come into the spotlight on the American microbrewing scene.
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, it is rewarding that other
importers are following in our path.
Gradually we built the portfolio you have come to know and nurture along with us.
