Frank Boon, who started as a blender, is considered by many to be
the leading revivalist Lambic brewer in Belgium today. Boon is remarkable for making
completely traditional products, and yet having the
softest and most drinkable Lambics. They are tart
and crisp, but with none of the acidic bitterness
that some of the traditional brewers have made their
mark of authenticity.
Boon believes that Lambic does not have to be harsh
to be genuine. His Lambics are 100% spontaneously
fermented beer. He uses only whole fruits for his Kriek and Framboise,
without the addition of syrups or extracts. His Marriage Parfait Vintage
Lambics are blended from the best casks from outstanding years.
Experts’ Opinion “The overall impression is of an astonishing balance. Boon (Kriek) is simple sorcery in a bottle, and I won’t hesitate to recommend it above all others.” C.R. Saikley California Celebrator “The Lambic family are not
everybody’s glass of beer, but no one with a keen interest in alcoholic
drink would find them anything less than fascinating... They are the meeting
point between beer and wine. In Lembeek itself, the revivalist Lambic-brewer
Frank Boon makes an aromatically fruity, almost lemony, unblended product
... Boon is unique in that he is a young outsider ... who has come into
a craft where many practitioners are contemplating retirement. ****World
classic.”
Microbrewery of the Year—The World Beer Championships “Even before I drink a Gueuze
I get an intense feeling of anticipation. It is the champagne of the beer
world ... Of all the imported Gueuzes I have tried, Boon’s most closely
resembles the samples I drank in Payottenland ... It is as if (Boon) stuffed
a piece of the Belgian countryside into a bottle and shipped it overseas.”
